Filming!

I have recently been in touch with another multimedia student who is filming the ATRG products and facilities. I have written and spoke on the phone for scenes that need to be shot and have taken production still for ideas. I now have a better outlook and visualisation of how my advert is going to look.

I have also been working on the new logo for ATRG that now looks like this:

Here are some stills for pre production I have taken when I went for a tour around Bonnington:

3rd year Multimedia CLIENT Project

For Assignment one (Internal Client) I am to design a 45 second advert for NTU Advanced Textiles Research Group (ATRG).

We have been given three choices to choose what advert we will produce. I have decided to choose Moving Image Brief 3. That is "What we have already done: Documenting.

I have decided to choose this because I think I will make a better success at it rather than the futuristic brief and facility brief.

I think I will be able to produce a "slick, stylish" video documenting existing achievements of the group.

Options available to me include examining existing products that have come to market as a result of the research conducted by the group. Another option is examining the technical breakthroughs achieved through the research of the group. Entwining the two together may be a decent idea.

CONTEMPORARY STYLISH FRESH ARE KEY ELEMENTS TO MY ADVERT.

  • I want my advert to be punchy
  • Change the clips in pace... as well as the sound
  • Tag Lines or distinctive creative styles are all more likely to be impact
  • focus closely on the brand news, with the use of voice-overs, showing the product, and demonstrations of the product in use.
  • Structure of the ad is KEY
  • A storyline creates a scenario  to which your audience can relate. Adding brand elements into the scenario allows the audience to connect with the brand.
  • A storyline is an effective way to deliver brand messages in a meaningful and memorable way.

My idea of a story line is using HISTORY since i am to document what I have done so far.

Back to the UK.

Yesterday I got back from Portugal and have got most of my filming done. I still need to film a a voice over. I have made sure I have plenty of filming since I cannot hop in a car to re film since it was in Portugal.
Advantages of filming in Portugal was that I could use great scenery and the weather was bright and sunny. I thought filming ing Portugal would be different from what everyone else was doing and that I would be able to get some decent shots filming under water etc.
Disadvantages of filming in Portugal is that I had to rely on the weather being sunny and suitable for filming. I also had a limited time to film and even ended up extending the trip in order for me to get all the footage I needed.
I have put a lot of time and effort into the final project of this year. However I still have a far way to go editing and a bit more filming!

Filming for Depict

Recently I created the storyboard for my film. I am currently in Portugal and today did the first filming. It went well, however I will need to do an extra couple of days filming. I am using 2 characters in total for my film. I have extended my trip in Portugal for an extra five days so that I can achieve a better outcome for my film.

Finalised choice of film for Depict.

On Friday I did my pitch, and have decided to choose my first idea which is about a young man who finds a key. The film has an underlying meaning referring to a parable. I suggested using the parable 'life is about the journey not the destination".
I have been doing some doing research and have found a more suitable parable:
" For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always som obstacle in the way, something to be got trough first, some unfinished business, time to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that that these obstacles were my life."
-FR. ALFRED D'SOUZA
This is obviously quite a long quote and so I will use a voice over.

I have been brain storming some camera angles/ shots I can use in my film and have found these:

I like the camera angles on these images and I will include them in my film. The location will be in portugal and so the weather will be sunny and warm so I should be able to incorporate this into my film.

LAST PROJECT OF SECOND YEAR...DEPICT

My last project of the year is a 90 second drama. I have recently had to come up with three different ideas in which I can film. Tomorrow is the first pitch.
The first idea is based on life is not about the destination but the journey. This will be the message to the audience, however will be portrayed through a story about a young man.
The second idea is based on that time is a gift of life and should not be wasted. Life should be loved and lived. This is the message I want to get over to the audience.
The third idea is based on a documentary genre about footballers. Ex professional footballers will be interviewed and asked questions on current football today such as, if footballers get payed to much and has the behaviour of footballers changed in today's society.
Tomorrow I will pitch my ideas to see what the lecturers say.

Third edit!

Yesterday I was pretty busy filming outside for my visual projection. I have spent a long time editing my previous film and adding new footage. I have concentrated adding new textures since Dominic advised this. I have also cut out some random footage previosuly in my film, however have still kept some sequences other lecturers are not keen on. I think they go well in my film. For example some did not agree with having the fire sequence in my film however I thought it went quite well how the ripples changed into fire and lips. It keeps the random obscure sense to it.  However I have cut out some transitions and scenes such as the logs which did not really fit as well.

Second edit to Visual Projection

Today Dominic and the lecturers saw my second edit and gave me some important points I need to take on board for my final edit! The main points are that I need to keep with the obscurity and surreal feeling of the visual projection. By doing this I am going to cut out strong transitions such as white box with the candles, my actual face whilst doing movement and the wellies with the puddles. Tomorrow I am going out to film. I have been advised to add more textures to the film and so I will film more repetitive patterns.

My second edit is this:

With the advice from my lecturers I will hopefully improve this edit and have a decent projection!

editing visual projection

Recently, I have been pretty busy editing my Visual Projection....it seems to be taking a hell of a long time! I had my first edit presentation a couple of weeks ago and Debra and Danny Kaye explained where I could improve and explained what they would change personally. However in my last piece of work I got criticised for paying too much attention to feedback and so this time I have I have only changed what I have felt is necessary.
The main criticism of my first edit was that the lectures felt there was too much going on in my film. Even though there are strong themes running through my film such as movement, repetition and reflection, there was just too much going on. And so the main task recently for me was to cut a lot of the sequences out however exchanging them for others since this piece has to last a certain amount of time. I have repeated more sequences I felt have worked well in the film and have included more reflection and ripples. I am showing my next edit on Friday so fingers crossed they will find it an improvement!

Visual Projection more footage!

This weekend I have been filming for my film getting more ideas and trying to keep the video fresh since it lasts four minutes which has an impact on my filming. The problem can be that it turns too repetitive and so the audience will find it boring. However I have put a sequence of jpeg images to create symmetry and I have put quirky experimental clips in to keep the sequence exciting.  I have gone from clips of fires to clips of snow.

It looks quite boring here however I have added after effects to these clips!

Putting ideas together for DP3, Visual Projection.

Today I went around Nottingham City centre to film. I came up with a few ideas and put them together using my mac.

I created a sequence to see what worked and what doesn't. Even though the camera work is slightly wobbly, I think it works:

More ideas for visual projection, Theme= MOVEMENT

I have been researching online to help give me some ideas for different sequences I can use in the visual projection film. I am going to film some moving escalators. Here is an idea which I can speed up and add effects.

Week 3: Finalised Ideas on Visual Projection

I have decided to go along with the first idea I had which was the most abstract experimental idea I created in which needed putting into a THEME. The theme thought out is all about movement entwining with some repetition, however using effects to create abstract visuals. For example footsteps walking, dominoes gong down one by one. Also I will film being in a tram and add effects.
Here is an example of movement on a tram:

I will also involve roller coaster effects, dancing and footsteps. I will try to link each sequence to each other, for example from a zip opening from a jacket to cut to moving down a track on a railway line. I will try to synchronise each sequence to run in continuity.
Here is a dancing effect which have given me a few ideas I can use in the track:

Second Term, DP3 Visual Ideas

For my next project I am to create a visual piece lasting between  minutes. I have a pitch to discuss tomorrow on three different ideas what I am going to do for my visuals.

IDEA 1:

The first idea I have come up with is to be completely abstract by having random images and sequences through the track. However there is a  theme in which when one item displays on screen there will be lots of them. For example one sequence will be lots of candles lit up with a birds eye view.

Then the next would be a collection of shoes being shown in a line one by one at a fast pace.

I would also use text in my video and use a sparkler repeated through the video. Here is an example I could get as close to my idea.

Also in parts throughout the track there will be a close up of a face which would have an x-ray effect with dark lips singing a few lyrics.
Other ideas in the video would be lights being switched on in a large room, flocks of birds flying, and collections of makeup, jewelry and skeleton faces.
My aim is to try and make  the visual as quirky and experimental as possible.

SECOND IDEA:

My second idea involves cartoons, cuttings out a white board and black board. Throughout the track strange images, patterns etc would be drawn to synchronise with the track. I would then have cartoons performing strange dance moves and cuttings out of newpapers and magazines coming to life using motion or after effects.

3RD IDEA:

My third idea involves different plants and flowers growing  throughout the tracks. Also I would have insects changing for example caterpillar developing into a butterfly. Another could be the sunrising and sunsetting. The theme would be representing TIME and LIFE.
Here is an example of flowers going.
